Brendan Smith (b. 1983, New Haven, CT), is a painter living and working in New York City. Known for his sculptural paintings and concepts in customization, Smith employs techniques that push the boundaries of painting in both practice and material. Eschewing brushes, he instead uses trowels to apply and manipulate the paint across the surface of the canvas in a dynamic repertoire of curvilinear strokes, splatters, and exuberant yet deliberate movements.
Smith graduated with a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has a MFA from the Yale School of Art. His work has been exhibited at Koki Arts in Tokyo, FIVE ELEVEN in New York, and at NADA Miami.
