Matthew Placek (b. 1979, Ohio, USA) is a photographer, filmmaker, and new media artist living and working in New York City. Exploring the psychological concern of the random encounter his work probes the body’s ability to remember. His commitment to capturing presence, whether as a sense of place, the passage of time, and/or the relationship between people, has led to his multimedia output.
Matthew’s work collaborates with some of today’s most influential artists including Marina Abramovic, Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Vanessa Beecroft, Cindy Sherman and others. His work has been exhibited at The Museum of Modern Art, Mary Boone Gallery, and Deitch Projects in New York, at Galleria Lia Rumma in Milan, and has been awarded at various film festivals including Sundance, Toronto Film Festival, and the Stockholm International Film Festival.
